NY Toyfair 2013 | Superman Movie Masters Classics

GeekSummit's NYToyFair 2013 Wishlist

So we have finally gotten a glimpse of our Man of Steel Movie Masters and even a tease of Batman '66 series getting the plastic treatment... But what about the Reeve movies?...

What if???...

Diddly Doo! Diddly Doo! Diddly Doo!

Superman Dc Collectibles entertainment legendary sdcc 2012 panel zack snyder henry cavill movie masters man of steel dark knight rising costume bane mattel fanfilm plano illinois smallville superfest zod sneak peek sizzle reel teaser trailer exclusive green lantern kilowog kyle rayner GeekSummit mystery figure action matty collector subscription tier 1 2 mattycollector.com hot toys kai play arts square enix bat signal batman 66 licnese

An entire progressing line covering all 4 yes all 4 Christopher Reeve Superman Movies could be slated for release in the mix of the Man of Steel Mania sure to take hold this next spring. 6" Movie Masters "Classics" would be designed for ALL headliner characters including:

• Marlon Brando as JorEl in black AND a white variant both with various crystal accessories.

• Lex Luthor with Kryptonite chain and a cigar (no word on removable wig status)

• Clark Kent with removable glasses and hat with overcoat over arm accessory.

• Superman authentic designed costume with newspaper dispenser.

  What, no Lois?

• There seems to be a teaser in the bottom left corner of an emerging 3-pack of the of the Kalamity from Krypton; Zod, Ursa, & Non.

Could more second tier characters be on the horizon? I would certainly think so being the first 2 movies use all the same characters… Hooray!!! a Two-Fer!!!

Diddly Doo! Diddly Doo! Diddly Doo!

With high hopes for an awesome Superman Legacy line from Mattel ala Batman Legacy (not bad) I could only hope with the most sincere delusion that this has crossed the minds of Mattel if not for the 75th anniversary of the man himself then the 35th anniversary of the first movie... Well, I can't make it happen myself but I can throw this blood in the water and hope someone wants this as bad as I do…

Star Wars | BLACK SERIES

Star Wars action figures are growing up with their audience. After 35 years of fantastic plastic standing tall in pop culture at 3¾ inches, Hasbro is releasing the "Star Wars" Black Series this year, beginning a new set of 6-inch figures that will feature more articulation and an increased attention to detail.

"Star Wars" action figures are growing up with their audience. After 35 years of fantastic plastic standing tall in pop culture at 3¾ inches, Hasbro is releasing the "Star Wars" Black Series this year, beginning a new set of 6-inch figures that will feature more articulation and an increased attention to detail. Priced at $19.99 each, eight figures are planned for 2013 — Hasbro will primarily draw characters from the original "Star Wars" trilogy of films while also bringing in key players from the prequels. The first wave of four, due out in early to mid-August, includes Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing Fighter flight suit, fan-favorite droid R2-D2, bad guy Darth Maul and an Imperial Sandtrooper. "We consider them the best figures that Hasbro's ever produced for 'Star Wars' that meets the sensibilities of romancing the character as well as the playability and poseability that fans really appreciate," says Derryl DePriest, Hasbro vice president of boys marketing. Hasbro has had success with the scale before with the 6-inch Marvel Legends figures based on Marvel Comics heroes and villains. In terms of "Star Wars," though, the Black Series will act as a transitional point between the 3¾-inch toys — "which is rooted in the childhood memories of generations of now-grown kids," DePriest says — and the 12-inch Sideshow Collectibles figures for adult collectors. The current "vintage"-style line of 3¾ figures will also continue under the Black Series banner. In creating something new and different with "Star Wars," the color black became an inspiration for toy designers, DePriest says. "It's one of the main colors of 'Star Wars' all the way back to the beginning, and it's the approach that Lucasfilm has taken with their collector-oriented product line. We're bringing that simplicity and essence and focus on the character now to the toy aisle." The Black Series appeals to those newbies who want to start a series from the start as well as those hardcore collectors who gobble up anything having to do with the words "Jedi" or "Empire" and "are looking for something new and their interest isn't as piqued by the 15th cantina alien we have yet to do," DePriest says. "We realize folks want their iconic characters delivered up in a new way." With "Star Wars: Episode VII" coming from new "Star Wars" director J.J. Abrams in a couple of years, as well as comics, novels and other media adding to the universe George Lucas started in 1977, it's a good time to figure out different scales and toys for the next generation of Star Wars fan, according to DePriest. Before then, however, the Black Series also gives a chance for parents to connect with their own little "Star Wars" fans. "Our focus here is the adult collector, the dad," DePriest says. "We know they have their own generation of youngsters they like to share the adventure with. It can be something for dad, and the 3¾ world can be something for the kids to share."

Superman Lives - Nicolas Cage as Superman

For years images have been popping up of different conceptual work and unique costume designs that would have been intended for a theatrical release of "Superman Lives" back in 1999. We can call it all conceptual since it never manifested. We have seen neon suits, plastic bubble musculature suits, wicked sculpting and some simply strange images of Nicolas Cage in a suit that looked like it was made solely out of puff paint... scary.

John Schnepp is a director on Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse and Venture Bros., provided the W is for WTF segment for ABCs of Death and worked with Upright Citizens Brigade in making their TV pilot. I don’t suppose there’s anything that could seem out of place in such a varied resume, but his next project – Kickstarter willing – is certainly newsworthy. Here’s Schnepp pitching a documentary on Superman Lives, the Tim Burton-directed, Kevin Smith co-scripted, Nicolas Cage-starring Superman movie that never quite was. There’s a lot of promise there. In fact, there are a few promises in particular that I think Schnepp might find it hard to deliver on. He’s telling us flat out who he’ll interview but there’s no indication that any of these folk will want to be interviewed. What’s more, I think Schnepp’s attitude that this film is just “weird” won’t do him any favours with some of those interview subjects either. Still, I’d like to see an actual film about this near-film. Not as much as I would have liked to see the film itself, but still. You can support Schnepp with a donation to his Kickstarter. For $1000 you can even buy your way into the documentary and get this platform to voice your take on Superman Lives.

Just recently a new image of Cage in a more traditional yet Burtonesque rubberized suit has surfaced. Original images were in a super low quality archive sepia but I recolored these versions.

UPDATES: Man of Steel Toys Leaked | Zod Revealed!!!

Well, it's happened again. More leaks from a show in France  and a new premature Ebay auction show a few more figures we can expect to see in the coming months.

We have some additional perspective on the 5" figures. We'll be sure to see an array of Superman variants showcasing different super powers ala Superman Returns as well as a few deco variants and accessory heavy compositions. Here we have Moto Assault Superman... the foes can only get get bigger from here.

These packaging shots do seem to lean the previously thought 5" figures to more of a 3.75" presence though such as Marvel Universe... but we'll see!!!

UPDATES: Man of Steel | First Look @ Prototype Figures!!!

Man of Steel figures are hitting eBay!!!

Well, its happened, the first glimpse at the Man of Steel figures… feast your eyes and consume what you will… This is it, I'm assuming the standard 3.75" figures we will be seeing come to market this spring. I was doing my usual ebay scan when I ran across this gem. Immediately I knew what it was. Have a look!!

This being the 3.75" figure we wont see the complexities of articulation and such that we will be waiting to see with the Movie Masters line but we do have a very nice sculpt. It looks like at most we will have 2 ball jointed shoulders and the rest looks like cut/swivel and not that many. About as much as the later Kenner Batman figures plus elbows. It nearly starts to take on that look the more I look at the carving and linework. BUT any way... I know this line is going to be set out on its obligatory MULTI COLOR SUPER TEK 12 Shades of Superman tour BUT just seeing this simple unpainted "proof" is a great reminder of what we have to look forward to here shortly.

The sheild itself looks to be a flattened version so I guess the "S" will be printed after the fact to accomodate the number of symbols we should be seeing; since we already know that Superman and Zod (if not also Black Zero) wear similar bodysuits. I just hope this component averaging doesnt find its way into the 6" line. This new iconc "S" needs to be realized in sculpt, and NOT in different layers of pad print, so please Mattel, throw us a bone.

I'm a little confused on how exactly we are seeing this cape function. I'm not sure if we are looking at cape on the shoulders or undersculpting to attach possibly a sculpted cape top??? Something bugs me about that region BUT these are hardly my focus going in once these hit shelves. I'll be putting my sites on the 6" Movie Masters for sure.

While these are being slipped out per customary of China there is no doubt we will be seeing too many of these floating around as "Prototypes" but in reality they are mostly unpainted figures and usually toss outs… SO as you get ready to commit and hit "Buy it Now" just remember these may just hit the shelves before yours arrives from China and they will look MUCH better.

Thanks again China!!!

THIS JUST IN!!!!!!

A Second prototype has surfaced!!!

This one looks to jump straight into the gear mode. I'm assuming… or only hoping this piece would be more  common on the villain figures BUT we can only guess this is the first glimpse of the "TEK" filled Man of Steel line we've all… no… basically… Forecast calls for 2 summers of these little guys hanging out at your local WallyWorlds, hopefully in smaller droves… They just block my views of the Movie Masters' pegs. It's sad that the Nolan Batman is on its way out just as his guided Superman is coming up. Seems like it'd be a great time to connect the two over a toy line. World's Greatest… just missed it… Damn you Superman Returns… and Hopefully Thank You...

Man of Steel Costumes Officially Revealed!!!

Costumes from the upcoming Man of Steel film to be released next Summer have finally surfaced at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas NV. Companies seekeing license opportunities were able to see 3 costumes from the soon to be blockbuster. On display were Faora's kryptonian battle suit, JorEl's House of El garb and the infamous "Where's the Breifs?" Superman suit worn by Henry Cavill during the film's shooting. This is the first time that these costumes have been shown other than candid on location shots that have absolutely soaked the internet in SuperCircles.

It seems the origin of the Superman suit has been explained as nearly the Blue Jeans of Krypton... Everybody wears them. You'll notice that Faora's suit shares the same wrist cuffs as does the JorEl suit. The texture of the body suit seems to be the same as well but then made much more horrifying by the tons of sharp armor and attachments. JorEls costume seems to have a still intimidating presence but definitley has a more elegant authoritative look.

Superman's suit itself is a new take on the classic hero. The red trunks have been dropped and new elements have been brought in to give the costume a new life in running with the New 52 era of our classic heroes. Though there was a lot of back and forth on what this would do to the look of the hero I think we'll find that a lot of the action happens from the waist UP on our favorite hero. So hopefully folks will see very quickly that the trunks really wont make that much of a difference in how AWESOME and faithful this film is going to be to fans and newcomers alike.

Man of Steel Custom Figure IV & Packaging by GeekSummit

GeekSummit MattyCollector Exclusive Bruce Wayne to Batman Dark Knight Rises SDCC12 SDCC 2012 ToyFair Henry Cavill Man of Steel Licensing packaging movie masters superman Metropolis Ilinois Superman Celebration 2012 Shirt Design Superman Trunks Plano Smallville Superfest
Welcome back everybody. I've been hard at work over the last few hours pulling my latest version of the soon to be seen star of the screen; Nolan/Snyder's Man of Steel played by Henry Cavill. This is version IV of this figure. I made a couple tweaks from version III that made it easier to capture some of the new detail of this incarntion as well as attempted to pull together a tighter likeness overall.

This recipe calls for nearly the same cobination of parts. I opted for the solid torso this time as opposed to the ab-crunch articulated model. So basically you get all WWE Elite limbs on a standard upper torso. The details from the boots were completely dremelled off leaving only a smooth booted look. Boot tops were sculpted on above the cut joint. The head comes from a Texas Tornado figure with the hair completely resculpted.

The cape starts off as a bright red piece of polyester but I gave it a quick overspray with black spraypaint. Kinda like you would put on cologne if you got any class. I spray in an arc OVER the cape not directly onto it.

The wrist cuffs, body webbing, top of cape, belt buckle, and "S" sheild are all sculpted using Apoxie Sculpt. I work in thin layers pressed into place and then I sculpt with the exacto to make super clean lines. I also do my detailing with the Exacto and sometimes the dental pick.

The "S" shield is sculpted in 2 layers. First the base is pressed into place and smoothed and trimmed. Then the detail layer is pressed and cut out using an exacto in place. Once sculpted I took a small piece of fabric and pressed it over the "S" to give it that hyper detailed look the rest of the costume has in reference.

Blue Mixed with a little black and yellow. Webbing detail is painted over using spray chrome. I spray it into a stack of 3.oz mouthwash cups… (use only one and you'll see why). I use the chrome to drybrush the webbing in chrome. honestly this time I just went full on paint with it but went back over with the Blue/black/yellow mixture to mute it.
